2019 Subaru Forester vs 2019 Jeep Cherokee

Proudly Serving Harrisonburg, VA

If you are in the market for a compact crossover, look no further than the 2019 Subaru Forester. The Subaru received a complete makeover for this year and featured a more powerful four-cylinder engine, a host of standard safety features, and increased passenger and cargo space. While the 2019 Jeep Cherokee is a capable crossover that has been redesigned for this year, it lacks many of the features of the Forester. Let's take a closer look to see how these two vehicles compare

Trims and Featuresy

The 2019 Subaru Forester is available in the following five trims: Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring. The 2019 Jeep Cherokee also offers five trim levels. The Base Forester comes well-equipped with features such as automatic LED headlights for improved safety, a four-speaker CD player system with satellite radio, a backup camera, keyless ignition, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, Subaru's Starlink app suite, automatic climate control, smartphone integration for Apple and Android, and a driver information display. The base Jeep Cherokee Latitude is nicely equipped but lacks many of the Forester's features to include keyless ignition and satellite radio.

The Premium steps up to features such as a color information display, a six-speaker audio system, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Wi-Fi hotspot, a power driver's seat, alloy wheels, rear air vents, a panoramic sunroof, and roof rails.

The Sport upgrades to 18-inch black wheels, steering wheel shift paddles, LED foglights, an improved driver information display, keyless entry, a new driving mode, and exterior and interior orange accents.

The Limited adds adaptive headlights, a power liftgate, dual-zone automatic climate control, and leather upholstery.

The Touring includes many of the features of the lower trims plus a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, driver-seat memory controls, rear seat remote-folding levers, and a power-adjustable passenger seat. The top of the line Jeep Cherokee Overland is well-equipped but does not offer features such as steering wheel shift paddles or rear seat remote-folding levers.

Performance

The 2019 Subaru Forester comes with a capable 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to a smooth-shifting continuously variable automatic transmission(CVT). All trims come standard with all-wheel-drive. All trims have an EPA rating of 26 city/33 hwy. The base engine for the Cherokee has less power and torque. The Cherokee also does not offer a CVT and has an EPA rating of 22 city/31 hwy.

Safety

The federal National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA) gave the Forester its highest overall rating of five out of five stars. The private Insurance Institute for Highway Safety(IIHS) gave the Forester its highest overall rating of "Good." It also recognized the Forester as a Top Safety Pick. All trims come standard with a host of active safety aids such as adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and dynamic lane control. While the Jeep Cherokee comes with some helpful safety aids, it was not recognized as a Top Safety Pick and is not as safe as the Forester.
