2018 Subaru Crosstek vs 2018 Subaru Impreza

Serving Harrisonburg, Dayton, and Massanetta Springs, VA

Subaru has been consistently known for the past 2 decades as one of the best car manufacturers in the world. The Impreza is a compact (but roomy) 5-door car, but also having a 4-door sedan style as well, while the Crosstrek is known as a cross-over SUV. Whether you love their symmetrical all wheel drive system, or how both the Crosstrek and Impreza were voted as Top Safety Pick+ designations from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS); Subarus are great for the concrete jungles and exploring the countryside.

Performance

When it comes to fuel economy, both of these cars test higher than their competitors. The Impreza returns 28-38 mpg (when having an automatic transmission), and the Crosstrek receives 27-33 mpg. If you opt to a manual transmission in either vehicle, you will see a decrease in about 4-6 mpg.

The Crosstrek can tow up to 1500 lbs with it's 152 horsepower, while the Impreza is more of a light, destination style vehicle, that won't be able to tow. Subaru provides a three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty for both vehicles.

Appearance

The Crosstrek tops the whole subcompact SUV class with 20.8 cubic feet of cargo space, once you fold down the rear seats. While the Impreza sedan only has a 12.3 cubic foot trunk, the hatchback model has the same cargo capacity as the Crosstrek. Both the Crosstrek and Impreza come with a 6.5 inch touchscreen Starlink system, but if you opt in for the premium edition model, the screen is 8 inches, and also gets you an upgraded sound system. Also, the Crosstrek’s 8.7 inches of ground clearance will be very helpful when off pavement, exploring the back trails!

Safety

As mentioned before, both vehicles have earned Top Safety Pick+ designations from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Both the Crosstrek and Impreza come standard with a rearview camera. You can opt for a multitude of active safety features as part of Subaru’s EyeSight system, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. All Subarus are crash tested, and have been crafted to keep you and your family safe in any circumstance. The Subaru Impreza received a 5 out of 5 star rating for the "roll test," while the Crosstrek got a 4 out of 5.
