What's New for the 2018 Subaru Impreza?
Apart from automatic wipers now being standard on all trims but the base-level model, the Subaru Impreza remains unchanged for the 2018 model year. Which is understandable, since the previous year kicked off the car’s fifth production cycle. For those in search of a small ride with optimal traction, look no further than the 2018 Impreza, which is the only one of its kind with standard all-wheel drive. It is also one of the few that offers not just a four-door sedan body style, but also a more spacious, five-door hatchback. Powering the latest Impreza is a 2.0-liter horizontally opposed 4-cylinder (H4) engine, which produces 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. On the base-level and Sport models, the H4 is hitched to a 6-speed manual transmission. The Premium and top-level Limited get a continuously variable transmission instead. As a small vehicle, the Impreza seats up to five people; trunk volume is measured at 12.3 cubic feet on the sedan and 20.8 cubic feet on the hatchback. On the Premium, Sport, and Limited trims, Subaru adds front-seat heating capability. The Sport stands out with its racing-style upholstery featuring red contrast stitching, and the Limited is the only model with leather-seat trim and 6-way power adjustability on the driver’s seat.
Base-level standard comfort and convenience features on the 2018 Impreza include electronic cruise control, a multifunction display, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free phone calling and streaming audio, four-speaker audio, Subaru Starlink multimedia interface characterized by a 6.5-inch LCD touchscreen, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for controlling the stereo head unit with your smartphone. On the Premium and higher, Subaru adds two more speakers. On the Sport and Limited, Subaru upgrades the multifunction display with a color 6.3-inch screen, and adds HD Radio, keyless access with push-button engine start, and a four-month SiriusXM satellite radio trial subscription. For restraint and cushioning when there’s a crash, the 2018 Subaru Impreza provides a driver’s knee airbag, dual front impact airbags, two front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and two front and two rear roof-mounted side curtain airbags. Other base-level safety features include electronic vehicle stability control, hill start assist, traction control, a rearview camera, an anti-theft system that combines keyless entry with engine immobilization, and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution, and brake override. Notably, the Sport has larger disc brakes for quicker response to the brake pedal, and it has active torque vectoring to work with electronic vehicle stability control in ensuring better handling and steering. On all trims but the base-level one, Subaru adds STARLINK Safety Security, a suite that consists of services and functions such as automatic collision notification, SOS emergency assistance, roadside assistance, and stolen vehicle recovery.
