2020 Subaru Forester vs 2020 Subaru Ascent
Serving Harrisonburg, VA
In 2019, Subaru introduced the Ascent to its line. At that time, the Ascent became the most significant SUV offered by Subaru. This is a three-row vehicle that falls under the midsize crossover SUV umbrella. Many of our clients at Bob Wade Autoworld are drawn to the Ascent because it is a newer option, and they want to know how it compares to more established models like the Forester. The 2020 Forester is a fifth-generation vehicle with two rows of seating, and it is a compact crossover SUV. Notably, the Outback sits in between the Forester and the Ascent in the current Subaru line.
Performance
The essential differences between the Forester and the Ascent begin under the hood. The Forester is equipped with a 2.5-liter, 182-horsepower engine and a continuously variable transmission throughout its six trims. The Ascent, on the other hand, is powered by a 260-horsepower, 2.4-liter turbo engine, and a CVT throughout its four trim levels. Both models are outfitted with an exciting array of standard mechanical features, and these are an active torque vectoring, vehicle dynamic control, X-Mode, hill descent control, intelligent all-wheel drive, and traction control. The Ascent also has trailer stability assist across its four trims.
Appearance
Across all dimensions, the Ascent is a larger vehicle, which equates to a more spacious interior cabin and a greater sense of dominance on the road. Its large grille has a black finish and commands most of the front end. The Ascent's LED headlights have a triangular shape, and they trend back toward the front fenders. The side contours round slightly as they pass across the doors, and the roofline has a sporty angle at the rear. To finish the Ascent's exterior style, up to 20-inch wheels are available with all-season tires. The 2020 Forester has thicker LED headlights, comparable side panel definition, and a black grille with a chrome bar running along its top. Also, the Forester offers up to 18-inch wheels.
Features
Inside the cabin, the Ascent has a few beautiful finishes that are not offered in the Forester, and these include carbon fiber and wood accents. The Ascent also has standard or optional heating in the second row, reclining seats in the third row, a tri-zone climate control system, a Harman Kardon Quantum surround sound system, and other exciting features. Both the Forester and the Ascent offer a wireless internet connection, a standard Harman Kardon sound system, a dual-zone auto climate control system, a power liftgate, a navigation system, a touch display screen for multimedia technologies, and more.
