 What's New for the 2020 Subaru WRX?

For the 2020 model year, the WRX—which is Subaru’s high-performance version of its compact car—is touched up a bit as it continues its third production cycle. Still in place, though, are the vehicle’s five trims: a base-level model, the Premium, the Limited, the STI, and the STI Limited. Go with any of the first three mentioned models, and you get a 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four engine with 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The STI and STI Limited have a more substantial, 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-four with an output of 310 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque under the hood. Both engines are paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, with incline start assist added on the STI trim level.

A five-seater with standard all-wheel drive, the 2020 Subaru WRX starts with comfort and convenience features such as electronic cruise control, Bluetooth wireless technology for hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, a six-speaker stereo system with AM/FM radio and a single-slot CD player, HD Radio, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone integration, a trial subscription to SiriusXM Radio, dual USB ports and an auxiliary audio jack for hooking up mobile devices, and Subaru Starlink infotainment integration anchored with a 6.5-inch high-resolution LCD touchscreen. Upper-level additions and enhancements include leather upholstery, front-seat heating, 8- or 10-way power adjustability on the driver’s seat, keyless access and push-button start (now standard on the STI trim levels), dual-zone automatic climate control, a 7-inch touchscreen (in place of the 6.5-inch), voice-activated controls, trial subscription to SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link (in addition to the one for SiriusXM Radio), a navigation system, and a nine-speaker 440-watt Harman Kardon stereo system.

Standard safety features on the 2020 WRX include a seven-airbag system, active torque vectoring, vehicle dynamics control, a traction control system, an anti-lock braking system, brake assist and override, daytime running lights, a rearview camera, and an anti-theft system that combines keyless entry with engine immobilization. On some trims above the base-level model, Subaru adds a blind-spot detection system with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert, as well as the Starlink Safety and Security package (for functions such as automatic collision notification, SOS emergency assistance, roadside assistance, and stolen vehicle recovery).
