What's New for the 2020 Subaru Forester?

The 2020 model year of the Subaru Forester has a few updates; a lane centering function is added to the compact crossover’s list of standard driving-assistance technologies, and the All-Weather package is now standard on the Premium model. Other than that, the 2020 model year is unchanged as a fifth-gen model for this nameplate. Split into regular, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring; the 2020 Subaru Forester is an all-wheel-drive vehicle with two rows of seats to accommodate up to five occupants.

Powering the crossover is a 2.5-liter H4 engine that produces 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque and is pinned to a continuously variable transmission. It has an auto start-stop system to eliminate engine idling. X-MODE is added to upper-level trims to enhance traction ability. The cabin includes cloth upholstery, 6-way manual adjustment on the driver’s seat, and a 60/40-split flat-folding rear seatback to expand cargo space as standard. By upgrading in trim increases your chances of getting additions or enhancements such as front-seat heating and 10-way power adjustability, rear-seat and steering-wheel heating, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 2-position driver-side memory system, and racing-style upholstery with orange stitching (unique to the Sport trim) or leather seat trim. For comfort and convenience, the 2020 Forester starts with amenities such as a monochromatic multifunction display, automatic climate control, dual front-row USB ports, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone integration, four-speaker audio, Bluetooth wireless technology, a trial subscription to SiriusXM Radio and SiriusXM Travel Link, STARLINK infotainment integration, AM/FM radio, a single-disc CD player, and a 6.5-inch high-resolution LCD touchscreen display. Upper-level amenities include a color multifunctional display, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless access with push-button engine start, steering-wheel paddle shifters, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, two additional USB ports (placed in the back), two other speakers or a nine-speaker 576-watt Harman Kardon system navigation, HD Radio, an audio jack, and a larger 8-inch touchscreen. Standard safety features include seven-airbag system, vehicle dynamics control, trailer stability assist, traction control, four-wheel anti-lock braking, brake assist and override, electronic brake-force distribution, daytime running lights, and a theft-deterrent system. The previously mentioned lane centering function is part of the EyeSight suite of driving-assistance technologies, which is also standard and includes adaptive cruise control, sway warning, and pre-collision braking. Upper-level trims are more likely to get features such as high beam assist, blind-spot detection with lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert, reverse automatic braking, and the STARLINK Safety and Security suite.
