The Impreza is a compact car that is available in a hatchback and a sedan format. Its last generational change was in 2016, and it has been modestly updated year after year since then. The Impreza may be compared against the Legacy, which is a midsize car. Notably, this sedan is Subaru's flagship car, and its seventh generation launches with the 2020 model year edition.
Performance
All of the 2020 Impreza's trims for both body styles are outfitted with a 2.0-liter, BOXER engine, and this powertrain generates 152 horsepower. The entry-level sedan and hatchback trims have a 5-speed manual transmission, and all of the other Impreza trims for the 2020 model year are outfitted with a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission. In comparison, the 2020 Subaru Legacy has a 2.5-liter BOXER engine across most of its trims. This powertrain generates 182 horsepower. The Legacy trim for 2020 is equipped with a 2.4-liter turbo BOXER engine and produces 260 horsepower. Both of these powertrains are connected to a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission.
Appearance
The 2020 Subaru Impreza and the 2020 Legacy have several comparable exterior style features. For example, the black grille has the same shape on both vehicles, and it carries a chrome bar through the top portion. The headlights in both models are comparable as well, but the Legacy's headlights move toward to the rear more strongly and have angled accent light beams on the top surface. The Legacy also has chrome window accents, and these accents are black on the Impreza. If you take home the Impreza hatchback version, your car will have raised roof rails.
Features
Across the 2020 Impreza and the 2020 Legacy, you will find that the Legacy has a few additional high-end features than the Impreza has when you look at comparable trim lines. However, the Impreza and the Legacy both have a navigation system, a Harman Kardon sound system, an auto climate control system, powered front seats, USB ports, keyless entry, mounted steering wheel controls, a push-button starter and more. The Legacy also has paddle shifters, a multi-zone climate control system, a larger display screen in the center console, and several other items that are not standard in most or all of the Impreza's trims.
