2018 Subaru Outback vs 2018 Ford Edge
Serving Harrisonburg, Dayton, and Massanetta Springs, VA
The 2018 Subaru Outback was designed to be a more balanced vehicle in the legendary brand's lineup, and the designers did not fail to deliver in that respect. With standard symmetrical all-wheel drive standard on even the base model, you're going to get a smoother, more even drive, and with the engine designed to deliver a better gas mileage performance, you've got many reasons to opt for the Outback over the Edge. That's not to say that the Edge doesn't deliver on many other counts. It's just to say that the Outback will give you a much more balanced crossover SUV. Balance is important these days, as a lower gas mileage often decreases the true price of the vehicle over time. It's our opinion that just because of its sheer efficiency, many people will and should choose the Outback over the Ford Edge. It just makes good sense and saves a lot of bucks over the long-term.
Towing Capacity
The 2018 Subaru Outback has a clear advantage in towing capacity. With 2,700 pounds of towing capacity, you can carry many heavy loads with the Outback. Compare that to the minuscule 1,500 pound towing capacity of the Edge. Yes, it goes all the way up to 2,000, but that's still an inferior bottom like to the robust 2,700 pound marker of the Outback. For sheer pulling power, you're going to find the Outback a better option for your family. It's more than ready to pull jetskis, 5th wheels, and more during your outdoor summer adventures.
Starting Price
The Outback gives you all that towing power, and more efficient gas mileage (we'll get to that in a minute), for less. The starting price of the 2018 Outback is only $25,895, a steep decrease from the nearly $30,000 starting price tag of the Edge. If you're looking for value, you're going to get a lot more with the Outback, especially since its passenger capacity is about the same as the Ford Edge. The efficiency of the Outback is so impressive, that we believe it's going to cost even LESS than its price tag over the years, while the inefficiency of the Edge will cost you dearly over the decades.
Efficiency
Power is great, but it's only great if it's delivered with efficiency, and the Edge fails in this respect. You'll be stopping at the gas station much more often if you opt for the Edge. The SUBARU BOXER® engine lineup planned for the Outback will give you significantly better gas mileage than the, admittedly, more powerful Edge engines. The determining factor here is what you're willing to pay for. Are you willing to pay more per gallon to get the slightly more powerful engines of the Edge, or are you going to go with a significantly powerful engine that's more efficient with the Outback? We're going with Subaru on this count.
Both vehicles promise to deliver a lot of great new features in their 2018 editions. The legend of the Outback lives on, though, and many people are glamouring to get their hands on the new Outback in 2018. Yes, the Edge is a great vehicle, and it will serve many families well. As a much larger crossover SUV, it might just "edge" out the Outback on a few counts, but if you're looking for value, towing capacity, and efficiency, you won't find any better than the Outback in 2018. It's our pick! To test drive it today, just call our dealership and get ready for a comfortable, efficient ride.
