2018 Subaru Crosstrek vs 2018 Subaru Forester

Proudly Serving Harrisonburg, VA

If you're shopping for a Subaru SUV, you already know about our commitment to quality, safety, and value. The only remaining decision is which of our models best fits your lifestyle. Here's what you need to know about the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek, a fully redesigned subcompact crossover named as the best in its class by U.S. News and World Report, and the 2018 Forester, a traditional compact SUV.

Performance

The Crosstrek has a four-cylinder engine offering 152-horses and a towing capacity of up to 1,500 pounds. It's paired with a manual transmission but can be upgraded to a continuously variable transmission, which operates like an automatic.

With the Forester, choose from either a 170-horsepower four-cylinder or a 250-hp turbo-four. Most models come standard with the CVT, though a manual is included in the 2.5i and 2.5i Premium trims.

You'll get great fuel economy numbers with both vehicles: 27/33 city/highway miles per gallon for the cross trek and 26/32 for the Forester. Both SUVs come with standard all-wheel drive.

Appearance

In the cabin, both vehicles provide seating for up to five passengers, although the larger size of the Forester means it has a more spacious rear seat. Each offers outstanding visibility that creates an open, airy feel along with Subaru's iconic minimalist styling. High-quality, soft-touch materials are used in both SUVs.

Both these SUVs are at the top of their respective classes when it comes to cargo space. The Crosstrek has almost 21 cubic feet in the trunk, expanding to more than 55 cubic feet with the seats folded down. With the Forester, you'll get more than 34 cubic feet in the trunk and almost 75 cubic feet with the seats folded down.

Features

Because the Crosstrek was updated this year and the Forester was last redesigned in 2014, drivers who prize the latest tech over interior space will likely choose the subcompact Subaru. The Crosstrek comes standard with a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. While neither of these systems are available in the Forester, it does offer a 6.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth and USB connectivity.
