Serving Harrisonburg, VA

When auto shoppers visit Bob Wade Subaru for their next auto purchases, they always find an excellent selection of rugged, well-equipped models. The 2023 Subaru Forester is a compact crossover with solid capabilities and is frequently compared to the Ascent. The Ascent is a midsize crossover with a third row of seats in its cabin and robust capabilities. What are the many other differences between the Forester and the Ascent that could drive your next SUV selection?

Performance

For both of these models, all trims have standard all-wheel drive. The Forester's trims are also equipped with a four-cylinder, 182-horsepower engine, and a CVT. Higher trims get a boost from more drive modes and enhanced towing power. The 2023 Ascent also has one powertrain across its trims, a 260-horsepower V6 engine with a CVT. Some Ascent trims have enhanced towing power and an upgraded drivetrain.

Appearance

The Forester is designed from end to end to conquer on-road and off-road driving conditions. It boasts extensive, dark molding over its side doors, fenders, and front bumper. The bumper molding angles upward to surround the foglights and touches the bottom of the LED-boosted headlights. The nose also shows off a large skid plate and a black, molded grille. The Ascent is a larger vehicle with a taller nose and curved definition on the sides. The front of the Ascent features a larger grille and wider headlights that are partially enhanced by LED ribbons.

Features

While there are several exciting differences in the feature availability for these Subaru crossovers, there are also many similarities. The Forester and Ascent are both offered with an auto climate control system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, adaptive cruise control, a push-button starter, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, a power liftgate, driver's memory functions, a navigation system, and a Harman Kardon audio system. The Ascent adds a third row of seats. It is also available with wireless smartphone app connectivity, a larger touch display screen, heated second-row seats, an intercom system, a surround-view camera, second-row sunshades, a driver attention monitor, ambient lights and a digital rearview mirror.
