 What's New for the 2023 Subaru Forester?

The Forester is a compact crossover that has been a part of the Subaru lineup for over two decades. This popular model is well-known for its rugged styling and capabilities. For 2023, the Forester is a mid-generational version almost identical to its predecessor. In fact, between 2022 and 2023, Subaru has only switched the availability of a few minor features across the trim line. The trim levels, including the Base, Premium, Sport, Wilderness, Limited, and Touring, are unchanged.

The performance of the Forester has stayed the same for the 2023 model year. Under the hood, the 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine is combined with a continuously variable transmission, and this system produces 182 horsepower. All-wheel drive is standard for all Forester crossovers. Higher trims continue to have multiple drive modes, higher ground clearance, and all-terrain tires.

The Forester's design is unchanged going into the 2023 model year. A sharp descent establishes the look through the nose and considerable height through the level roof. The sides are functionally styled with expansive molding. Across the nose, this molding continues to be pronounced on the bumper and around the foglights. The black grille is relatively small and separated from the eye-catching headlights. These lights have a diamond shape and are mostly surrounded by an LED ribbon. Depending on the Forester trim selected, it may be outfitted with a power liftgate, up to 18-inch wheels, a roof rack, a skid plate, tinted rear windows, a sunroof, and a few other items.

In the base Forester, you will find auto climate control, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a four-speaker audio system, satellite radio, and a 6.5-inch central infotainment system screen. Standard safety tech includes a lane departure warning, forward collision mitigation, lane keeping, and adaptive cruise control. Higher trims may be equipped with a heated steering wheel, heated seats, a driver monitoring system, a Harman Kardon audio system, leather material, an 8-inch central display screen, an evasive steering assist, and a blind-spot monitor.
